In August, Forbes Magazine released its annual rankings of model earnings. The rankings included top-earning male models. Basically, the top-earning male models earned a combined total of $8 million between September 2012 and September 2013. American, British and Canadian models topped this list. The trio of big earners all exceeded the $1 million mark in annual income. This list was compiled from estimated earnings from runway shows, licensing ventures, spokesperson gigs, commercial catalogs and contracts from fragrance and fashion companies. Below is a list of the top earning models in the year 2013.
10. Tobias Sorensen: $265,000
The tenth person on this list is Tobias Sorensen; this Danish model earned a total of $265,000. He has appeared in ads campaigns for Diesel, Zara, D&G and Antony Morato. However, most brands Photoshop out his scar that appears on his face. This scar was the result of a bite he got from a dog when he was a little boy.
9. Jon Kortajarena: $290,000
The 9th person on this list is the 28 year old Spanish model. Jon Kortajarena, a Bilbao native earned a total of $290,000 in the past year. This is thanks to his campaigns with H&M and Karl Lagerfeld.
8. Ollie Edwards: $410,000
This British model is apparently popular for his unique skin. He is best known as the face of Ralph Lauren. Ollie Edwards has also been involved in high profile campaigns with Giorgio Armani eyewear, Brioni and DKNY. He earned a total of $410,000 in the past year. Ollie has always been a keen motocross rider since he was 5 years old.
7. Tyson Ballou : $425,000
Tyson Ballou is from Texas and is 6 ft 2 tall. In the past year, he earned a total of $425,000. Tyson just turned 36; he started his career at only 15 years old and has since then appeared in ads for H&M, D&G, Salvatore Ferragamo and Calvin Klein.
6. Ryan Burns: $610,000
At number six, Ryan Burns earned an estimated $610,000 in modeling work. Most of this money comes from his fragrance contract with Zegna, a brand he has held contracts for through multiple seasons. At 35 years, Burn doesn’t have a diverse resume. However, his exclusive deal with Zegna has earned him more than most other models with broader portfolios but more sporadic work.
5. Noah Mills: 740,000
Noah Mills has been in the business for 10 years. The Sex and the City 2 actor managed to make $740,000 last year. This Canadian also plays a love interest in Taylor Swift’s video, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
4. Arthur Kulkov: $905,000
Arthur Kulkov is Russian but he was born in Siberia. Last year, this 30 year old model earned an estimated $905,000. He was scouted while playing soccer when he was still a university student in New York. He found success in the hard-to-get-into print ad business almost immediately. Arthur got multiple-year contracts with D&G and Tommy Hilfiger. He has also appeared in ads for Park & Bond, Gap, Express and Bloomingdales.
3. Simon Nessman: $1.1 Million
This Canadian-born model is one of the people to hit the million-dollar mark. Last year he earned around $1.1 million. At just 23 years old, this British Columbian native is already the face of Michael Kors and Giorgio Armani. He is a former high-school basketball player and has even worked for Versace and Calvin Klein. Simon Nessman has found success both on the runway and print campaigns. In 2012, he appeared in Madonna’s music video, Girl Gone Wild.
2. David Gandy: $1.4 Million
He is a favorite face of Dolce & Gabbana and earned about $1.4 million from September 2012 to September 2013. The 33 year old U.K native has been in this business since 2001. He has held contracts with Banana republic, Hugo Boss and Massimo Dutti. This leading man commands top attention as the most recognized male model in the United Kingdom. Apart from his role as the brand ambassador for Whey Hey ice cream and Jonnie Walker Blue, David Gandy also writes for British Vogue and GQ as a fashion writer.
1. Sean O’Pry
Coming in at number 1 in this list is Sean O’Pry. The 24 year old from Kennesaw earned about $1.5 million during the 12 month time period. He was discovered on MySpace at only 17 by Nole Marin. Marin is a notable fashion stylist who has been a great judge on America’s Next Top Model, and Lana Winters. This blue-eyed model, O’Pry, has landed major deals such as Giorgio Armani, H&M, Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo and Hugo Boss. However, most of his earnings come from the many fragrance contracts he has with Viktor & Rolfs Spicebomb’ and Jil Sander’s Ultrasense’.
